“Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric”

Bertrand Russell

Anoothi is a team of Entrepreneurs; as young as 17 years and as old as 70! Individuals who share their zeal for creativity and want to use their artistic talent for making this world a better place, a healthier place. The team of Anoothi is comprised of the following people:

Women from Villages of India

Women from the rural areas in India are generally illiterate or barely educated.  They work in farms or as labor to add to family income.  Since agriculture in India is mostly dependant on rain, about 8 months of the year, these women either have not much to do or work as consruction labor and earn barely Rs. 100/- (US$2.5) per day.  The uncertainity involved with this daily wages based profession and the insufficiency of income fails to make any significant impact in their economic status. Besides, working as  onstruction labour often deprives them of the most basic amenities, dignity and saftey for their children who generally remain with them whereever they go for work.  Anoothi works with these women and supports and empowers them in many ways.  These women are brought under the umbrella of Self Help Groups by Vatsalya and then trained by Anoothi  to produce handicraft items. In addition to being trained to create the Anoothi products they are also educated to manage their accounts and invest their earnings prudently.   The modus operandi of Anoothi to involve these women so as to enhance their living standards is discussed in much detail in the section "How We Work". Grown up Children of Vatsalya

Children above the age of 16 years, who live under the care and protection of Vatsalya as they were orphaned or abandoned very early in their lives are gradually groomed and prepared to be self sustained and independant. Some pursue higher education, however, for those who have crossed the age limit for an academic career, Vatsalya arranges for vocational training. Some choose jewellery designing and making and join Anoothi. Anoothi has, at present, 3 of these children, enthusiastically receiving training in craft and jewellery designing and have begun, slowly, to contribute in designing and production. Currently we have Manju, Aasma and Anmol being trained (12 hours per week) as part of Anoothi activities.

 Philanthropists

Jaimala and Hitesh from India  and Delta from the US are the brains and actors behind the creation and expansion of Anoothi.  These are the people who conceived the idea of 'supporting life through creativity'.    Jaimala and Hitesh are both Public Health professionals who have a  long experience of working in development sector. Later they founded  Vatsalya and created a unique model of child rehabilitation. Realising a need for self sustenance  they strated Anoothi India which is based on a holistic model of community development. To know about them and their work, please visit www.vatsalya.org  Delta has worked with corporate America for 20 years and then decided to  initiate a new journey to know and relate to the rest of the world.  Delta established Anoothi US primarily to promote and market the products made by women  working with Anoothi India. Delta is also the Vice President of NICF; a non profit charity working in US to raise funds for Street Children programs in India.  To know more about it please visir www.nicfund.org.

The Designers of Anoothi Jewellery

Anoothi' designs are an outcome of creative imaginations of its memebrs. We do not have any professionals in our team and we realise that what comes out as a team work of creative individuals has a unique and original beauty in it.  At times, we sit and work hard to come up with a new design and some times we just leave a heap of semiprecious stones  with the rural women and they creat their own designs!

Anoothi is a Women's Cooperative and Partnerhsips are invited.
